Hey ladies and gents, hope everyone's week is going well, not that anyone actually reads this blog anyways (haha). This is my first post in 2 weeks, partially because nothing interesting is going on and partly because I'm too lazy to do another lengthy blog post.
Anyways news wise, the only thing going on is the situation in Libya is escalating. Moammar Gadhafi is not giving up his position of power and even the U.S. is getting involved. At first we were just going to create a no fly zone by occupying the air space above Libya. Now we're sending in ground troops for another war... This is going to be Iraq all over again. An 8-year war that accomplishes nothing and just adds to the unstablity in the middle east. I'm not saying Saddam Huessin is a good guy but at least when he was in power, Iraq was stable, now it's a mess.
I know this is off-topic, but what the hell is with the scheduling of college classes? I have to take 5 specific classes and two of them conflict with another two. WHY would they schedule these at the same time when they know that people need to take them together. GAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!! Hopefully I can get the situation fixed...
Well that's all I have for you this week. I may not do any more posts for awhile but if I get the motivation or if interesting things happen I may just come back and post. As always in the words of the great Ron Burgundy, "You stay classy, planet Earth."

March 16th: Earthquakes and Charlie Sheen and the NFL, oh my!
Welcome back ladies and gents. UMaine officially has the earliest spring break ever, which is pretty lame if you ask me. I hope everyone who did go on spring break had a good one. We actually got some interesting stuff going on in the past couple weeks. Japan got hit with their worst earthquake in recorded history (a 9.0 on the Richter scale). Charlie Sheen got kicked off of the show two and a half men. And the NFL failed to reach a new collective bargaining agreement, officially beginning a lockout. Let's get right into it shall we?
So everyone has probably heard of the devastating earthquake that hit Japan so talking about it might be beating a dead horse, but oh well. On March 11th an Earthquake hit the Northern part of Japan and was the strongest earthquake in Japan's recorded history. The earthquake caused a massive tsunami to devastate Japan's coastline. Conservative estimates have 4,500 killed and another 9,000 missing, although it is feared that this is a gross underestimation. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1366898/Japanese-earthquake-Death-toll-expected-reach-25-000.html?ITO=1490 has a number of pictures of the devastation that the earthquake has caused. More than 400,000 people are left homeless and living in shelters. My thoughts are with the people of Japan affected by this disaster. Some people think that the mass die-offs of random animals and this are just the start to the end of the world, which is obviously false. But hey, we can let the crazy nut jobs think whatever they want to think.
In lighter news, Charlie Sheen was kicked off of Two and a Half Men due to his recent antics. In my opinion, this was not a smart move by CBS, in particular for Two and a Half Men. Charlie Sheen was perfect in his role and after 8 years of being on the show, not having him on it will kill ratings. John Cryer and Angus T. Jones are funny but are not even close to being able to carry on the show by themselves. Sheen made the show, period. He's a drunk womanizer in real life and playing that on the show just came naturally. CBS needs to just cancel the show and leave it at that. It was rumored that John Stamos could be the replacement for Sheen, but I honestly don't see that working out. Uncle Jesse on a show like Two and a Half Men doesnt seem right.
Now let's go to the NFL. As fans of football may already have heard, the collective bargaining agreement between the owners of the NFL and the NFL players association as recently expired and attempts to reach a new agreement has failed. It came down to the owners wanting more money that would be taken out of things like a retirement fund for the players. As of now there is no football next season until a new agreement is made. This thought might scare people but consider that the owners have a lot more to lose from not having a season than having one. I will say right now that i believe there will be football next season. Preseason might not happen but the regular season definitely will.
Well that's all I have now. At least i had a few interesting things to talk about this week. I hope everyone has a good rest of their week and as always, in the words of the great Ron Burgundy "You stay classy, Planet Earth."

February 23rd: Nothing has Really Happened
Greetings ladies and gents, hope everyone's week is going well. This past week has been kind of dull news wise. I personally just want spring break to be here. I also don't really have anyone worthy of a weekly shout-out so I guess I'll skip that too. I did however just got done writing a paper about abortion and how the views on it differ cross-culturally throughout the world. I also just saw something fascinating on CNN, a small toddler less than 2 years old is using medical marijuana, what has our world come to? Oh and some crap is going on in Wisconsin or something.
That's right, a small toddler is now using medical marijuana to treat the side effects of brain tumor medication. Isn't that a tad bit ridiculous? I really hope the child makes it through everything but giving him marijuana at that age seems over the top. Is there really nothing else they can give the kid? Also to put things on the record, I am actually for the distribution of medical marijuana.
And some stuff is going on in Wisconsin. Stephen Colbert hilariously referred it to trouble in the middle-west, a parody to the news headline in Egypt, trouble in the middle-east. Democratic state senators actually fled the state in an effort to disallow the voting on a bill that in their view would crash the state economy. If you want to find out more, watch last night's Colbert Report, it was pretty awesome. If you really want to know what's going on, go check a news website or something.
Now on to that paper I wrote about Abortion. Let me just say that China is absolutely ridiculous when it comes to their abortion policy. They actually force mothers to abort their fetuses if they see any genetic abnormality or think they are not strong enough to continue the genetic line. What they are doing is nothing short of what the Spartans did when they threw out babies that they saw as weak. I want to say that I am for abortion. I believe the mother has the right to choose whether to have her baby or not past a certain point. If you're nearing the 3rd trimester, you probably should've decided whether you wanted to have the baby or not. When it gets to that point, it should only be a medical emergency to allow an abortion.
Anyways, kind of a boring blog post, but I wanted to get it done before I left for work and nothing really interesting has happened. I hope everyone has an awesome week and if you're in college an awesome spring break. As always, in the words of the great Ron Burgundy, "You stay classy, Planet Earth."

February 16th: Valentine's Day and Bieber Losing
Good afternoon ladies and gents, hope everyone's week is going well. I know this is a few days later than I usually blog but I figured I'd post something in lieu of studying for a test I have tomorrow. Some interesting things going on this past week include the ousting of Mubarak, Justin Bieber losing best new artist, and the ever dreaded Valentine's day. So, has anyone tried to study for a test for a class they know nothing about? I attended every class but one this semester yet I know little about it. I usually screw around on facebook or nfl.com and the professors dry teaching style doesn't really help either. This week's shout out goes to my boss, Jodi Munster for giving me tonight off so I can study for my test. Enough about my boring life, let's get in to some sort of news.
Last week Hosini Mubarak finally resigned as the president of Egypt after a largely peaceful revolution started on Facebook and Twitter. Finally these pointless wastes of time were used for something constructive. For now the military is under control until the Egyptians can hold a democratic election. Something tells me they are far from accomplishing democracy, but good for them.
This past Monday was everyone's favorite holiday of the year, Valentine's day. If you didn't sense my sarcasm in that last sentence, please go take an IQ test. Anyways, my valentine's day was spent working, attempting to study and playing video games. It's probably the most depressing time of the year for anyone who doesn't have a significant other and it's even annoying for those who do have one. It's a stupid, commercialized holiday that we Americans take way out of proportion. Do you know what Valentine's day is really celebrating? The clubbing and beheading of St. Valentine, a Catholic priest in Rome who performed illegal marriages for young couples. Yeah, that's right, think about that when you're having a romantic dinner with your loved one after buying them an expensive, meaningless present.
Sunday night was the 53rd annual Grammy awards. I'll be honest and say I don't really care about the Grammys but the news I heard the next day made my week. Justin Bieber, who is perhaps the most overrated, annoying human being on this planet lost the best new artist award to a relatively unknown woman, Esperanza Spalding. Of course this generated much negative tension among the Bieber worshiping community consisting of 12 to 16 year old girls. Look at his video for "Baby" on Youtube, it has more dislikes than likes. Not only that but he is referenced in a negative way in almost every single music video under comments. When is this little kid going to realize that no one likes him and he's better off doing finger painting in grade school. How old is he? 12? 13? Who knows. But what I do know is I may listen to this Esperanza Spalding just because she beat Bieber.
Not much is going on in the NFL as of late. They still haven't reached a new labor agreement and if they don't by the beginning of March, there might not be football next season, which could be devastating. At least I got my Red Sox coming up in the spring and the Celtics who are doing pretty well, but even those two sports don't come close to football for me.
